I just dropped my playdough hand...

The earth moved last night....nothing really new for us in California. There was a 5.6 earthquake about 75 miles south of us at about 8pm, and yes, we even shook pretty good that far away. Luckily, we Californians are so used to such things that unless our house is falling down, we pretty much just pickup whatever might have fallen off the shelf (actually, we have all our stuff kind of glued down with this stuff called Museum Wax) and go about whatever we were doing.

The funny part of this whole thing is the little exchange that took place between Eric and I. I was in the Kitchen literally wrestling with these goofy monster hands that I had made on Monday out of coat hanger wire frames and duct tape and then covered them with some homemade baking soda playdough so they would look creepy.....well they turned out really awful. So I'm in the kitchen wresting with these goofy hands, trying to bend them to fit into plastic cauldrons and (they're pretty heavy mind you) I dropped one. Of course part of the playdough breaks into pieces and I'm picking it up when Eric walks into the kitchen and our conversation went something like this:

Eric: Did you just feel the earthquake?
Liz: No, we didn't just have an earthquake...
Eric: Yes we did, look, the chandelier is swinging.
Liz: No, that was just me - I just dropped my playdough hand....
Eric: I'm pretty sure the playdough hand wasn't so heavy it made the ground shake.
Liz: Are you sure you didn't just feel the playdough hand fall....

Eric proceeds to show me the other things that are still swaying and I finally concede that yes, there must have been and earthquake. It still makes me crack-up that I tried to convince him that it was just my playdough hand....I can see it now - the headlines read: "Woman in the Napa Valley drops playdough hand...causes all of California to shake".

Have a happy and safe Halloween tonight
