Avast, Me Hearties...

Keep a weather eye...There be Pirates up ahead...

Yes, exactly two weeks from today is the day that has been long anticipated in my household...The day that "Pirates of the Caribbean - At World's End" is set to release on DVD.

Collette is a Huge fan of Capt'n Jack Sparrow (played by Johnny Depp). Her bedroom hosts a nice collection of Capt'n Jack "stuff" including a prized photograph of Johnny Depp on the red carpet at the "Worlds End" premiere taken by a friend of Eric's.

Collette's love of all things "Pirate" doesn't stop with her collection - she insisted on having a Pirate Birthday for her 10th Birthday party. The party was complete with Capt'n Jack himself! The impersonator we hired was a dead-ringer for the real thing only a little taller. He even took them around the house and yard on a treasure hunt looking for clues hidden inside of old root beer bottles. The kids had the most awesome time!

I, myself, fancy a quite different Pirate. Yes, I do agree, Capt'n Jack is quite yummy. But mine is a not so menacing pirate who would rather tickle you with his feathersword than duel for treasure. (sans the pirate getup - I prefer the real guy) My dear Captain Feathersword (played by Paul Paddick) is just about as dreamy a Pirate as they come (Lauren and I actually got to meet him last Spring backstage at a Wiggles concert - he was quite charming). So, lets see here...handsome, charming, funny, good with kids and the Australian accent kind of makes you want to swoon - it doesn't get any better than that!

I've been pondering this pirate thing and haven't quite figured out why everyone is so in love with Pirates. Is it the "bad-boy" kind of thing? Is it the adventure that we all dream about? Is it the freedom to go where the wind takes us? Maybe each one of us has our very own reason for embracing the hidden Pirate within us...embracing our own "Pirattitude". I guess we'll just have to watch that movie one more time while I ponder it...
