Tasty Tuesday - Mixes in a Jar for Last Minute Gifts

Add to Mixx!

You need a gift for a Teacher, Co-Worker, etc... But you need it tomorrow! No time to run to the store for a gift (or maybe no $$), never fear! You probably have all or most of the ingredients to whip together a "Mix in a Jar". Mixes in a jar let the recipient enjoy a freshly brewed or cooked treat without having to run to the store for the ingredients.

Cinnamon Mocha

2 1/2 Cups Sugar
4 (1oz.) Squares Baking Chocolate
1 1/4 Cups Cocoa Powder
1/4 Cup Instant Coffee
/2 tsp. Ground Cinnamon

Toss everything into a food processor and process until the chocolate is quite finely chopped. Pour into a jar or a cute food-grade cellophane bag, tie a pretty bow around the top & you're done!

Include directions for making the yummy drink:
Stir 4 Tablespoons of mix and 2 Tbsp. of hot water in a saucepan until blended. Stir in 1 1/2 cups milk & heat until desired temperature.

Layered Beef & Barley Soup Mix

2 Envelopes Onion Soup Mix
1/3 Cup Split Peas (dried)
1/2 Cup Small dried Pasta (such as shells or alphabet)
1/2 Cup Barley
1/3 Cup Lentils
1/3 Cup Barley
1/3 Cup Rice
2 Tbsp. Dried Chives
Additional Small Dried Pasta to fill Jar

Pour ingredients (in order given) into a one-quart canning jar. Pack the ingredients tightly between layers to maintain the pretty "layered" look.

Add a tag with cooking directions:
Brown one pound stew meat in a large pot. Add six cups of water - Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer 30 minutes. Remove pasta from top of jar and set aside. Add an additional six cups of water to the pot and the mix from the jar. Simmer an additional 45 minutes. Add the pasta that had been set aside and simmer for an additional 15 minutes. Enjoy!

There you have it! Two easy and quick gift mixes for anyone who may need a last minute gift.

Except for the chives (and with some Beef Bouillion and Dried Minced Onion), that's what we just put together for presents at MOPS :-D I supplied the ribbon, because we put them in Cello bags and not jars (with having kids and all...)
