Growing up Strong with General Mills

My kiddos love cereal for breakfast - and so do I. Cereal is a quick, easy and healthy breakfast... right? Unfortunately "healthy" is not always a word that best describes some cereals. As a Mom, we have to be careful to choose cereals for our family that will provide something more than just a quick and tasty breakfast.

If the kids had their way, they'd eat bowlfuls of sugary cereals that provide nothing but sugar and a full tummy - then off to school they'd march rev'ved up on sugar with the inevitable crash looming in the mid-morning. We Mom's know that cereal can be both tasty and healthy - filing our kiddos up with wholesome things like whole-grains, calcium and vitamins while still satisfying their craving for a yummy breakfast.

General Mills Big G cereals to the rescue! Kids can enjoy their favorite cereals like Lucky Charms, Cocoa Puffs and Trix while you know they're getting what their growing bodies need to start their day. Cereal is one of the most nutritious breakfast options a kid can eat. Most cereals have about 100 – 130 calories per serving and provide at least 10 key nutrients. And, ready-to-eat cereal is the number one source of whole grain in American diets.

And it's good for their bones...

Did you know that your child should be getting 400 units of Vitamin D per day and 1,300 mg of Calcium? Approximately 75% of kids today don’t get the recommended levels of calcium and vitamin D -- two key nutrients for bone growth. General Mills Big G cereals are the only leading line of ready to eat cereals that provide 10% of both Calcium and Vitamin D in each serving.

Additionally, a recent report in a leading consumer magazine ranked kid cereals by nutritional content, and all nine General Mills Big G kid cereals included in the report were ranked in the top half. All Big G kid cereals have at least eight grams of whole grain per serving (at least 48 grams are recommended daily), and all have 12 grams or less of sugar per serving.

Our friends at General Mills, through the Mom Bloggers Club very kindly sent my family a box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal to try out. It's been a long time since we've had a box of this cereal in the house and all I can say is... "why haven't we been buying this all along?". Yummy - very cinnamon-y, just the right amount of crunch without feeling "hard". The kids loved it (in fact, it's already gone!).

So the next time you're in the cereal aisle, searching for a nutritious, wholesome cereal that not only your kids will eat, but you'll feel good about feeding them - check out General Mills Big G line of cereals. It's a choice that will make everyone happy... and healthy!
