I Used To Know That

Do you ever think to yourself I used to know that? Or gee I wish I could help my child with their algebra homework. Robert Louis Stevenson said it best, "I've a grand memory for forgetting." After all we only have so much space up there and as we grow in years a lot of our past knowledge gets dumped to make more space. This is why I am thrilled to offer you an adorable new book from Reader's Digest called I Used to Know That: Stuff You Forgot From School. This little book acts as a guide for teaches, students, parents and general knowledge enthusiasts as a quick way to look up things you forgot from school. Here are a few fun examples:

In Einstein's Theories of Relativity, E = MC2 what does C stand for again?
C is the velocity of light

What are the seven wonders of the world?
The Hanging Gardens of Babylon, The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, The Lighthouse of Alexandria, The Colossus of Rhodes, The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, The Status of Zeus at Olympia, The Great Pyramid of Giza (of the seven, only the Great Pyramid is still in existence)

What is onomatopoeia?
A word or phrase that sounds (a bit) like the sounds it is meant to convey: buzz, purr, or Tennyson's the murmuring of innumerable bees.

Facts from School You Forgot to Remember

Take an entertaining trip back to the classroom with I Used to Know That. Witty, engaging, and fun, this little book will appeal to the student in each of us. A one-of-a-kind collection of hundreds of facts learned long ago, it includes:

* Our Changing World: Test your knowledge of the latest geography.

* Prose and Poetry: From Shakespeare to diphthongs, English class will come alive again here.

* Math and Science: Quotients, phalanges, and protons . . . do these long-forgotten words take you back to high school days?

* History: As Santayana once said so well: "Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it."

Author Bio
Caroline Taggart has been an editor of non-fiction books for nearly 30 years and has covered nearly every subject from natural history and business to gardening and astronomy. She has written several books and was the editor of Writer’s Market UK 2009.

This sounds like a great book! What haven't I forgotten from school! I always joke that the stuff I remember is the stuff there are songs about (ie., the War of 1812) as I never forget a song lyric I once knew...

Great giveaway! My husband and I were so embarrassed the other night when we were talking to our niece, who was asking us basic geography questions and the like, and we realized that we have retained near to zero knowledge from our studies! It was funny though, she scrunched up her nose and said "mom said you were smart." Turns out her mom sent her to us because she couldn't remember either!
