Story Time Fun

We all know that reading to our children is important. They learn so much about language from this simple act. Sometimes it is fun to mix things up and do something different at story time. Here is a list of ways that you can take story time and make it an adventure:

-Snuggle time in Mom and Dad’s bed: I don’t know what it is about Mom and Dad’s bed, but it is always so much more fun than any other bed in the house! Turn story time into snuggle time by inviting your kids to join you under a blanket in your bed.

-Read by flashlight: Turn out the lights or hide under a blanket and turn on a flashlight. Everything is more fun by flashlight!

-Let your child tell the story: Even if your young children are not yet able to read, they probably have favorite books that they know so well they can tell you the story. Or give them a book that they have never seen before and let them tell you the story based on the pictures.

-Alternate Ending: While you are telling a favorite story, have your children imagine an alternate ending. This can help them develop their imagination and be good for a laugh!

-Buy or borrow a new book:While old favorites are great, a new book always makes story time more fun! The library is a great way to keep story time fresh and new. They regularly add to their collection, making it easy to make story time fresh and fun.

What do you and your family do to make story time fun?
