MASTER LOCK PROVIDES STUDENTS

‘THE SECRET COMBINATION TO SURVIVING THE TEEN YEARS’

Online video sweepstakes series and innovative combination locks send teens back to school in style

From being on time to class, to navigating those first awkward boy-meets-girl moments, students face an array of challenges every school year. Fortunately, Master Lock is helping teens survive this year in style with a fun, online video series and sweepstakes, as well as two new, innovative combination locks designed to make their lives a little easier.

“The back to school video series is a fresh way to engage teens and communicate the functionality and security our combination locks provide,” said Rebecca Smith, vice president, marketing for Master Lock. “We know being a teen is hard enough and believe products like ours can help minimize everyday stress.”

‘The Secret Combination to Surviving the Teen Years’ online video series launched Monday, August 2, and features ten humorous videos depicting familiar school scenes that all students – and even parents – can relate to. A letter of the day will appear at the end of each video, and viewers can use all ten letters to answer the question, “what is the secret combination to surviving the teen years?”

Participants are encouraged to watch the videos as they are released between August 2 – 6 and August 9 – 13 to enter daily drawings for a chance to win an iPod touch® or Master Lock® combination locks. After watching all ten videos, participants can piece together the master combination and enter for a chance to win the grand prize of a new iPad® with a gift card good for a two-year data plan, along with other prizes, from August 13 – 29. For complete official rules and prize description, visit www.masterlock.com/secretcombination_rules.pdf.

About the Products

The videos feature the new Master Lock combination lock, the 1500iD Speed Dial™ Set-Your-Own Combination Lock. Also available this summer is the new 1590D Precision Dial Set-Your-Own Combination Lock.

The locks are designed to make students’ lives easier by saving them precious time at their lockers and helping to keep their belongings secure.

The revolutionary Speed Dial Set-Your-Own Combination Lock features a first-of-its-kind design that opens on directional movements – up, down, left and right – instead of a standard rotary dial. The lock is faster to open than traditional locks, saving students valuable time as they hurry to and from class. The innovative lock is customizable, allowing students to create their own easy-to-remember, resettable combination with any number of movements in any sequence. For those who prefer more traditional methods of recalling their combination, the lock includes adhesive letters, numbers, colors, shapes and symbols that can be applied over the lock's directional arrows. It also offers a helpful solution for visually impaired students, as users don't need to see the dial to open it.

For those students more comfortable with a traditional rotary dial padlock, the Precision Dial Set-Your-Own Combination Lock from Master Lock offers users a new resettable combination feature in a familiar format. Busy students can leave memorization for their history books and choose their own combination for this lock using three letters or numbers. The lock operates with a standard right-left-right movement, and an enclosed reset tool ensures students will never need to worry about forgetting their combination again.

Like every great school accessory, these locks are available in an array of vibrant colors: the Speed Dial is available in red, blue, white and black with chrome, and the Precision Dial is available in pink, black, blue and green. Both locks feature anti-shim technology, which deters break-ins from shimming that can open traditional locks. For an extra measure of convenience, students can visit http://www.combolocker.com/. Combolocker.com allows lock users to store multiple combinations or key numbers in a secure database that can be accessed online 24/7, 365 days a year.

The 1500iD Speed Dial Set-Your-Own Combination Lock and 1590D Precision Dial Set-Your-Own Combination Lock are available at retailers nationwide, with suggested retail prices of $8.99 and $7.99, respectively. Both locks are also available online at http://www.amazon.com/.

Online All of the Time

From locker security to Facebook privacy, Master Lock also is offering a solution for locking up secrets online with the ‘Master Lock Secret Vault’ Facebook® application. Facebook users with a juicy tidbit or fun photo they want to share with a select group of confidantes – but not their entire friends list – can install the application at www.facebook.masterlock.com, lock up their secrets in their own Secret Vault using a virtual Speed Dial Set-Your-Own Combination Lock and create a custom combination to share with only a select group of friends.

To view ‘The Secret Combination to Surviving the Teen Years’ web series and enter the sweepstakes, visit www.masterlock.com/SecretCombination. The videos also will be posted on the Master Lock YouTube® channel at www.youtube.com/user/masterlockcompany.

The Speed Dial directional lock is super cool! Its great for younger kids in school that can't easily remember a traditional number combination and more secure than using your own initials or birthdate or something... of course, I bet lots of the will be up up down down left right left right (the old Konami code from NES days :) ). Thanks, I would love to have either padlock!

These are some pretty neat padlocks. Too bad they didn't have them when I was in school... it would take lots of fingers to count how many times I forgot my locker combinations over the years. I'd go with the 1500iD Speed Dial lock if given a choice. Thanks!
