Weight Loss Wednesday - Rock My Run - Review and GIVEAWAY - CLOSED WINNER ANNOUNCED

So you've decided to get healthy.... Good job!  But how are you going to do it?  Some people just go with eating healthier, some go with exercise alone - but we all know that combining the two will yield the greatest results.

Combining the two......  sound easy enough, huh?  Just type health or healthy eating into the search bar here at Pink Lemonade or any search engine and you'll get more information than you could read in a week.  Same goes for exercise, there are fancy gadgets that you can shake, twist and pull to get healthy, you can use elliptical machines and Nordic ski machines - or even a full-on home gym, not to mention spending big bucks on a gym membership - and, yes, you'll get results.

Let me share my favorite find for getting healthy...

Walking.  Simple, huh?  If you're a beginner and not in such great shape, walking is one of the best exercises you can do - it's cardio, it builds muscles and, best of all, it's free!  If you're in okay shape and your doctor feels your up for it, Run!  You'll see results even more quickly (which, let's face it, is what we all want anyway).

A lovely walk (or run) three or four days per week is just what the doctor ordered - you get exercise, fresh air and it actually puts you in a much better mood.  I began walking about three and a half months ago and started with about a half-mile, as I built muscle, lost weight and got healthier, I added a little distance every week - I am now up to almost five miles each time I go for a walk and I really enjoy it!

Walking along listening to the sounds of nature.... and traffic... and all the other noises around is nice, but it doesn't keep you motivated or help you keep a steady pace (not always easy once you start to get tired).  You could listen to music, but the beats are not always consistent - and there are those pesky commercials to ignore.  I recently discovered the most awesome tool to help with all of that....

"Rock my Run"

Yes, it's called "Rock my Run" and it's available for free on both iTunes and in the Google Play store so anyone can use it.  There are really fun playlists of just about any type of music you like - everything from House bands, 80's (my favorites) and Christian Rock to Seasonal music for those holiday times of year.  You can choose your length from less than an hour to two plus hours for those who have worked up to some serious moving.  There's even an option that lets you choose your beats per minute (bpm) to make sure you're walking at the right speed for your goal - I usually look for 180bpm to keep myself around 3 mph.  One of the great things about this app is that all of the mixes are downloadable so you don't have to use data to stream the music - it's also great when you're in an area with spotty cell coverage so you can keep the tunes coming.  Rock my Run features a fun tool called "My Beat" which adjusts the tempo of the music you're listening to in order to match your pace or motivate you to push a little harder.

Rock my Run has been featured on the Today Show, in Self Magazine and the Chicago Tribune to name a few, so this is a legitimate phenomenon that has some serious followers.

Why not get up go for a walk and give it a try yourself (and maybe get a little healthier at the same time)??  There are lots of mixes available with their free membership and even more if you choose their premium membership option (which is only $2.99 per month, lots cheaper than workout equipment or a gym membership).
