Make Back to School Easier with a Breakfast Station

Depending upon who you are, the words bring either gloom or glee... melancholy or merriment... the blues or pure bliss. This, of course, depends upon whether you are a student or a parent!

Unfortunately, there's not much we can do to lighten the load of the "End of Summer Blues" that most kids feel at this time of year - but we can get them off to a good start every morning by making sure they have a great breakfast!

I'm not going to get into what's nutritious and healthy - we have lots of great food and health contributors to help you with that - what I am going to tell you about, is setting up a "Breakfast Station" in your kitchen to make your mornings so much easier.

A "Breakfast Station" is, basically, a little section of your kitchen devoted to your morning meal. At my house, I have a long counter, in the middle is my kitchen sink, on either side, empty counter space. There are cabinets above the empty spaces and I use smaller one as my "Breakfast Station".

Take a minute and think about all of the things you use every morning... coffee maker, coffee, cereal, sugar, oatmeal, everything, right down to bowls, cups and spoons. Make a list of these things and then decide where you would like to place your "Breakfast Station".

Completely clean out your chosen cupboard (or maybe you only need half a cupboard if yours are large). Place the things that you use at breakfast every day in to that cupboard. In my breakfast cupboard I have: Cereals, Oatmeal, Pancake Mix, Coffee, Tea, Dried Fruit, Syrup, Breakfast size plates(just one of each serving piece per person), Cereal bowls, Coffee mugs, Juice and Milk Glasses and a ceramic crock full of teaspoons - everything (except refrigerated products) that I need to make breakfast. On the counter below is my coffee maker and toaster. I can make an entire breakfast without running all over the kitchen to "gather" my ingredients. It may not seem like much, but once you set up your "Breakfast Station", you'll be hooked - My first step was just the simple addition of the crock of spoons near the coffee maker and it made such a difference that I set up the whole station.

Who couldn't use just a little more convenience and simplicity first thing in the morning? Whether it's just having everything at hand in one space or being able to see exactly what there is available in one glance, take my word for it - the "Breakfast Station" will change your mornings for the better!
