The Cheater's Diet Tips for Spring

Spring is here and as the weather get warmer and the days get longer, swimsuit season isn’t far behind.  Spring’s the perfect time for renewal and regeneration - and to give health and fitness goals a boost with a bit of spring cleaning.  If you’re seeking to shed extra pounds leftover from the holidays and a long winter, don’t miss out on the top foods you should be eating right now for simple springtime cleaning – no unappetizing juice fasts, no miserable bouts of deprivation, just clean, lean foods.

Nutritionist Marissa Lippert, author of The Cheater’s Diet: The Sneaky Secrets to Losing Up to 20 Pounds in 8 Weeks Eating (and Drinking) Everything You Love shares her expert tips on getting prepared for spring by consuming detoxifying foods that will help kick up digestion and increase energy, getting you into summer shape in no time.

Marissa’s Cheat Sheet: Quick & Dirty Detox Tips for Spring
  • Give your liver a break and flush toxins!  Beets and cruciferous veggies like broccoli, brussels sprouts and cauliflower are great for releasing toxins.  Also, green tea is loaded with antioxidants and a bit of caffeine, a cleansing alternative to other calorie-dense or sweetened beverages.  Try a cup or two in the morning and afternoon – any flavor.
  • Release any sight of extra water weight. Citrus fruits (oranges, grapefruits, lemon, tangerines, etc.) are excellent for jumpstarting a sluggish digestive system and wringing out excess water.  Cucumbers, artichokes and asparagus also serve as light natural diuretics and come into season in mid-to-late spring.
  • Help bust inflammation and bloating with healthy omega-3 fats including avocado, wild salmon and walnuts for a toned stomach by summer.
  • Because we all need a little naughty fix sometimes!  Dark chocolate is high in antioxidants and rich, indulgent flavor.  You’ll knock out that sweet fix in just 2 or 3 squares and leave behind a lot of extra, empty calories while curbing sugar and carb cravings.
